Monarch Ranch Butterfly Conservatory was created by husband and wife team, Sean and Katey, from their love of nature and wildlife conservation. Monarch Ranch was created to connect people to nature while educating them about the wonderful world of bugs, plants, and conservation here in South Carolina.
Monarch Ranch was built entirely by hand on old farm land, taking years to restore the soil and bring back a thriving balanced ecosystem to the land for the first time in decades.
We believe people protect what they know and love, what they feel connected to. So we teach guests about the natural world, spreading conservation beyond the gardens at Monarch Ranch.
We hope to create a place that encourages guests to slow down, notice the small things that make big impacts, and leave with new knowledge and inspiration to make a change.

This place is amazing! You will learn so much! We loved our visit and feel inspired to help save the Monarch Butterflies! They are so knowledgeable about butterflies and insects!

We really had such an enchanting time at the holiday with Belle tea party and the 2 bows we made were so cute. The grounds are very picturesque and my girl loved frolicking around. The owner, Katey, is so kind and quick to respond. As shown my girl gives this place 2 thumbs up.

Recently my 7 year old and I enjoyed an educational field trip to this incredible farm. My daughter loved exploring, seeing magnified “bugs”. Sean is most obviously well educated on every topic he teaches on and was available and enthusiastic to answer any questions. Admittedly I am an ideal visitor in that I am very passionate about conservation and eager to know how we can help our butterfly friends and ecosystems we live in. Before this trip I thought I was pretty well versed on native plants but it turns out that I didnt know a fraction of what I learned. Katie has incredible patience and warmth for children. She gave my daughter full attention and taught her about the importance of providing winter homes for our important insects. I heard all about my daughters plan to make a bug hotel on the drive home.

We had the best visit at Monarch Ranch with our homeschool co-op today and can’t recommend it enough! Katey and Sean are incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the plants and animals on their beautiful property, while also being engaging and patient with all of the students they interact with. Our family has visited many, many field trip locations and believe Monarch Ranch is the best example of a true “field” experience for students of all ages. This experience is hands-on, fascinating, and truly one of a kind – even all of the adults in our group walked away with new knowledge about our native SC habitats! Thanks so much Katey and Sean for all the hard work and dedication you’ve put into creating not only this beautiful space, but an amazing educational opportunity for our kids – we can’t wait to be back!
